Details of Wishbone Falls

Wishbone Falls is an amazing 77-meter waterfall located in the East Matukituki Valley area of Mount Aspiring National Park.

The closest town to these falls is Wanaka which is around 50 KM. To reach the waterfalls, visitors must drive about 1.5 hours along the Wanaka-Mount Aspiring Road. There are so many potholes along the road and the surface is uneven. Even though small cars can be reached to Wishbone falls, 4WD vehicles are recommended.

There is no official or DOC-made carpark or facilities at Wishbone Falls however visitors can park by the roadside and do a 10-20 minute walk to reach the falls.

You can watch the falls from the roadside but to get closer, you have to do a short walk through the private property. All travellers should exercise caution around the electric fence and respect private property by leaving no trace behind.

This is a great location for swimming during the summer months, but there are also chances for rock fall from the top. The trail to the falls is generally considered moderately challenging and open year-round.
