We are travelling from USA to NZ, What is the cheapest SIM card options?

A caution about eSIM : We went to NZ at the end of July and my son purchased the Hola Fly eSIM for his Verizon phone ( recommended by some in this group). He followed directions to a T and turned on after landing in NZ. When we returned home we found he was also billed by Verizon. As it turned out you can’t use an eSIM if your phone isn’t completely paid off.

If you don’t want to buy the international plan through your phone company, Spark and 2degrees is pretty good. There’s also phone stores at the airport you can look through

I used AT&T’s International Day Pass when we visited NZ last year and will use it again on our next visit. They charge $10 each day it’s used but only the first 10 days is counted and it’s free after that. My husband got a SIM card at the airport and had to change to a NZ phone number while we were there. Ended up being very inconvenient for him to use to stay in touch with family back in the States when he had a different number.
